Seshat's name is commonly understood as “female scribe.” She was associated with writing, record keeping, measurement and the recording of royal years. Surviving reliefs show her writing and participating in the ceremonial “stretching of the cord” connected with establishing sacred buildings.
Her emblem is distinctive and usually shown with seven points, but its precise historical meaning remains debated. It should not be confidently labelled a cannabis leaf, star or other modern identification as if that interpretation were settled fact.
Ancestral connection is not fantasy about a perfect past. Our ancestors carried brilliance, contradiction, survival, harm, creativity and unfinished work.
Wisdom grows when memory is treated with care. Dates, names, songs, recipes, migrations, land, losses and victories all belong to the ancestral record. Recording them can be an act of resistance against erasure.
Seshat holds the Gate where spiritual memory becomes visible. A message that is never recorded may disappear. A vision without structure may never reach the people it came to serve.
At this Gate, the ancestors are not used to escape responsibility. Their presence asks: What will you preserve? What will you correct? What will exist because you accepted the work of building it?
Begin one page with the words: “What must not be forgotten.” Record a name, place, memory, teaching or unanswered question. Leave space for the record to grow. Mark clearly what you know, what you were told and what you sense but cannot yet verify.
Knowledge prepares the threshold. Protection carries us through it.
